Silver Heights Peony Garden

The Silver Heights Peony Garden was established by Dr. James Frederick Brander in 1923, and continued up to the Second World War. The Peony Garden was originally located on several vacant lots in Bonnie Doon (93 Avenue and 85 Street), and over 200 cultivars were reportedly available from Silver Heights.

The Fort Edmonton Park recreation of the Garden is located to the west of the AGT Building on 1920 Street. The Garden possesses a border of hyacinth lilac, tartarian honeysuckle and rose shrubs. Approximately 26 varieties of peonies - totalling 120 plants - will comprise the interior of the garden. The peonies have been planted in such a way to ensure constant bloomage through the Park's operating season.
