A-1 Business Car

Canadian National Railways (C.N.R.) donated the now renamed A-1 Business Car to the Fort Edmonton Foundation in 1986. The car was built in 1912 and subsequently converted to a Business Car named "Prince Rupert" in 1919. The car was used as a business car until 1985 when it was taken off of C.N.R.'s rolling stock. The Car remained in the train shed in Fort Edmonton Park until the Foundation's Executive Director, Vicki Van Vliet Vaitkuans, put together a dynamic group of corporate sponsorship, the Royal Bank, and community volunteers. The A-1 Business Car was thus restored to its 1920s appearance and is equipped to handle dinner parties, small social functions and business meetings.
The Foundation opened the Business Car as an official rental venue for the Park in the fall of 1998. It is located permanently on a spur line to the North of the Train Station.
