Firkins House

Donated by Rod & Audrey Karpetz and Family, Firkins House found a new home in Fort Edmonton Park in 1992. Unfortunately, when the House arrived on 1905 Street in Fort Edmonton Park from its original location at 7821 Saskatchewan Drive, the toll of the move and its already dilapidated condition made it desperate for repairs.
The Fort Edmonton Foundation undertook fundraising for Firkins House with the 'Buy A Brick' campaign-modeled after the 'Buy A Log' campaign for the Fort construction in the early '70s. It was not, however, until a chance meeting between the Foundation's Executive Director and an individual connected with the main Edmonton military base generated an opportunity for the use of the skilled labour from the 1 Combat Engineer Regiment. This labour was integral to allowing Firkins House to be restored to its full glory as a prime example of the craftsman style of architecture.
The Foundation was pleased to officially open Firkins House in the spring of 1999.
