Artist Lauren Baker has developed a style of her own that shines through on the horse she calls Military. Her horses often reflect the best of the work of John Zalar, combined with the later work of Charles Looff. But in this horse there is a suggestion of Daniel Muller as well. Muller is the German immigrant master carver best remembered for his superb military horses. Muller's sensitive, realistic cavalry horses were a tour de force, reflecting a deep interest in historical accuracy and detail.

Elegance through simplicity defines Military. Can't you already see her gracefully prancing around the second ring of the Fort Edmonton Park Carousel? The gold tassels and edge on her saddle blanket will surely sparkle under the lights of the carousel.

The all-female carving team of Jean and Anna brought Military to life from the blocks of wood that they carved.
