Without the incredible support of sponsors, it would not have been possible for the Foundation to replicate PTC #40 for Fort Edmonton Park. Their sponsorship of the decorative items on the carousel, including the horses and chariots, will provide the Foundation with the necessary funds to complete the carousel. It is estimated that the sponsorship program will raise at least a half million dollars, enough money to buy the wood, chisels and paint for our volunteer carvers and painters, in addition to the purchase of a machine on which to hang the decorative pieces. Is it any wonder that we refer to our sponsors as "pure gold?"
Typical of the sponsors is Jim Greer, a long-time supporter of the Fort Edmonton Foundation. In fact, Jim's association with Fort Edmonton goes back to the very beginning when, as a member of the Rotary Club, Jim was associated with the building of the Fort in the late 1960s. When he heard about the proposed carousel, Jim climbed aboard as both a sponsor and a carver. Inspired by a treasured photo of his dad, taken on an Indian pony called Buck in the 1890s, Jim worked with artist Lauren Baker to design a carousel horse that honours his father's founding of W.E. Greer Ltd, the firm that his father began over 75 years ago in Edmonton.
