There are two standers on the inner-row of the Fort Edmonton Park machine, each positioned inside one of the two chariots on the carousel. Standers have either three or four feet on the ground and therefore do not move up and down as do the other horses, known as jumpers. Our first stander is a classic elegant steed, designed by Sharon Abbott. The saddle has been influenced by the work of John Zalar. Note the jewel-studded bridle, saddle and harness.

One usually expects to find all standers on the outer-row of a PTC carrousel. Pictures of PTC # 40, however, reveal an outer ring consisting of all jumpers. This departure from the norm was likely due to the fact that it was one of the few portable machines ever made by the company. Although the Fort Edmonton Park Carousel will have only two standers in the outer row, it will have two more on the inner row. This is necessitated by the fact that the chariots do not allow for a jumping mechanism to be positioned in their "pie."

Sue is one of three carvers who attended both the initial Bob Cherot and Bette Largent workshops. Although carving is her true love, she intends to paint Bijou herself.
